Your Future Looks Bright
2019: A Year of Change
When the new years comes around, I always hear people say "people who make new year resolutions never keep up with them or accomplish them", which I think it's really unfortunate. I think that people make a new year resolution based on things that they have already begun to work on or something that they have been thinking about for a long time. The thing I would like to do most in 2019 is encourage all my family and friends who decide to go ahead and make these resolutions, and to encourage you to do the same with yours. Who knows how long they have been thinking about making that change in their life, and as a friend or family member we should be the first person to say "YOU'VE GOT THIS"!
With a new year also comes with thoughts of where I see my life going. I am currently in my 4th year of school for Product Design in Toronto and I know 2019 is going to be a year of change --- I graduate this year, so I am expecting a huge lifestyle change. I plan to move out of the place I am currently sharing with about 6-7 people at any given time (although I am considering staying the summer to save a bit of extra money). Also as a newly graduating student I will 100% be getting a job and that's an exciting though in itself! This past summer I interned at a toy company in Toronto and it was one of the best summers of my life, I felt so valued even as an intern and the company culture made it a place I could picture myself staying at. They even paid me much more than I was anticipating which was a huge ego boost as someone who struggles with confidence. I was treated really well there and coworkers said they hope to see me back. I haven't been offered a position but this 2019 I really hope that they might, but the summer position has given me enough confidence to not worry about my future in the industry -- which is a huge win!
In addition to supporting other people's goals my own goals for 2019 include :
Being more financially wise - this includes using things that I already own (like makeup and clothing) and not just opting to buy new things just because I want them. I also want to buy mindfully, buy products I use consistently and buy good quality things, which will save me more money in the long term
I want to be more eco friendly - I often find myself getting TONS of plastic bags and containers from the store, when realistically I have the option to bring my super cute reusable bags from home (which I always conveniently forget. I also find myself wasting food, recycling improperly and not using my compost bin which is just plain LAZY!
Get Healthier !! - Don't get me wrong, I am super body positive and believe in being happy with what you've got BUT I've always struggled with my weight and health. In highschool I found myself weighing a whooping 210 LBS which was a lot for my then 5' frame so I decided to join rugby to motivate myself to get fit - and man oh man did it work, I am the type of person who doesn't quit when I sign up for something but this was definitely on of the craziest things that I have ever done, I also realised that my eating habits were really bad and decided to do paleo for my last 2 years of highschool and after high school as well I dropped down to my healthiest weight ever 150lbs and I felt AMAZING! Unfortunately during College I let my health go (mostly due to a busy lifestyle and tight budget) and I now weight about 230 LBS which is the most I've ever weighed and I am experiencing many health issues related to my weight and diet. I made a decision in July to hire a personal trainer to show me how to use the gym properly ( I did 12 sessions) and I already see how much of a positive thing it has been for me, so in 2019 I really want to focus on eating food that is good for me.
What are your goals for 2019?
